Could You be Exposing Your Employees to Identity Theft?

Today many companies use email or some form of electronic transmission to conduct business.   It is not uncommon for accountants, attorneys and bankers to receive files electronically. Although many closely held business owners make the decision that their personal finances would not be important to the computer hacker, they need to realize that there may be more than just their personal information included in the transmission.

We commonly receive copies of QuickBooks files from our clients via email. In many small business environments, E-mail is unencrypted and inherently insecure. Even worse, many times the file being transferred is not password protected! If the company prepares payroll in QuickBooks there are employee social security numbers and addresses which would be available to the hacker. With identity theft on the rise, employers must hold the employee’s social security numbers secure and take every precaution to keep it that way.

We recommend using a secure internet service to transfer files to third parties. As you are readying your information for us, please keep this in mind. IF we have not introduced you to BDTS or another secure venue, please contact us….there is no fee for this access.
